Wednesday's Love Island Australia also delivered the season's first partner steal, a warning for single Amanda and a twist handing six former couples power over the villa. Suddenly, keeping your options open came with considerably more paperwork.

Natalie Gets Reassurance, Shawnee Gets More Questions

After Secret Squirrels exposed the Islanders' sexual histories and wandering eyes, Natalie needed a proper conversation with Jack.

His one-night-stand tally and Bali hostel confession had landed badly after their affectionate first night together. She worried she was becoming another holiday hookup when she wanted something that could last.

Jack listened, acknowledged why she felt that way and said he would not be putting time into their connection if he were not interested in something potentially serious. Natalie came away reassured and feeling safe with him. An actual conversation had done the job.

Shawnee and Lachie were having a less successful version. She felt he had practically advertised himself for Ava's second challenge kiss, despite reassuring her earlier that she was the girl he wanted.

Lachie maintained that the challenge was a chance to explore. He told Shawnee he was still hers for the moment, but that qualification was doing quite a lot of work.

Ava Steals Keanu, And Amanda Gets A Deadline

Ava's first dates had been with Jack and Lachie, but a flirty conversation with Keanu had given her another option. When Sophie Monk called everyone to the firepit, Ava was weighing up Lachie and Keanu.

She chose Keanu, praising his looks, humour and the way their conversation flowed. He was surprised, pleased and very ready to explore the connection.

Shawnee could finally unclench her grip on Lachie. Amanda, who had been enjoying her own promising chat with Keanu before Sophie arrived, was suddenly the only single Islander.

Then came the larger twist. Six former Love Island couples had been watching the villa, and these power couples would have a say in what happened next.

Sophie would return the following night, the power couples would make their first move, and anyone left single would be dumped. Their exact decision was still to come, but Amanda's problem was immediate: she had 24 hours to turn someone's head.

She had put her energy into Keanu, and now felt unwanted while other couples were already acting closed off. The firepit had turned a promising night into a scramble to stay.

Phoebe Supplies Crystals, Keanu Supplies Poetry

Ava apologised, but Amanda accepted that the bombshell had to choose someone. Phoebe stepped in to comfort her best friend and encourage her to start talking to the other boys straight away.

She also supplied rose quartz and a good-luck crystal. Emotional support, with accessories.

Amanda tried another conversation with Keanu in the Secret Garden, telling him she had been enjoying their earlier chat and had hoped to kiss him. He encouraged her to get to know everyone else.

To the cameras, Keanu was more direct: he was more physically attracted to Ava. With his new partner, he even improvised a poem to earn a kiss. It worked, leaving Amanda with very little reason to wait around for him.

Lachie was hardly closing any doors either. He told Ava he had thought she might choose him and would not have minded. He intended to keep getting to know her while continuing with Shawnee.

Surviving the steal had secured Shawnee's place beside him. It had not secured his undivided attention.

Oli And Amanda Head To The Secret Garden

Oli was still coupled with Layla, who felt he was barely speaking to her. He was also building a connection with Phoebe, making Amanda's next conversation rather complicated before it started.

In the Secret Garden, he acknowledged that he was close to Phoebe but said he was open to talking to other people. Amanda told him that he and Keanu were the two boys she had connected with most.

Oli asked to kiss her. Amanda was happy to, and both came away enthusiastic about the chemistry.

Amanda knew she would need to speak to Phoebe, but was still processing a fairly brutal evening. Oli's take was rather simpler: "I don't think I need to tell anyone I kissed Amanda."

Bold choice, considering his two romantic interests were best friends living in the same house.

Amanda Grafts While Phoebe Falls Harder

By morning, Amanda was still vulnerable and determined to explore her options. Lachie was upfront that his attention was on Shawnee and Ava, saving her from wasting time there.

Jarrar was sweet, but she did not feel a romantic spark. His own pairing with Phoebe was already friendly rather than romantic. Amanda's first proper conversation with Jack stayed on the surface too, leaving Keanu and Oli as the boys she could actually picture something with.

Oli was busy making Phoebe feel very good about her chances. They traded banter, talked about her ideal Paris date and complimented each other.

He mentioned having a nice chat with Amanda, but contrasted it with the connection he felt with Phoebe. The kiss with Amanda somehow failed to make the highlights package.

Then Oli and Phoebe kissed again. She was delighted, feeling that their friendship was becoming something more. He was equally pleased with how steamy things had become.

The Besties Compare Notes

Amanda eventually pulled Phoebe aside and told her about the Secret Garden kiss. Phoebe had not heard a word about it from Oli, despite spending a long time talking to him that morning.

She said he had given her the impression that there was nothing romantic happening with Amanda and that his interest was in her. That looked very different once Amanda explained how their own chat had ended.

The problem was no longer simply a boy exploring connections. The women were comparing two versions of what those connections meant, with a fairly significant kiss missing from one of them.

Thankfully, they directed their frustration at Oli rather than turning on each other. Phoebe's excitement evaporated, Amanda was thoroughly unimpressed, and their shared interest in him became a shared reason to look elsewhere.

Two Bombshells Are On Their Way

Phoebe wanted a bombshell, and the episode duly introduced two incoming boys: Jordan, a 24-year-old Airbnb owner, and Zel, a former professional footballer who now models.

Their arrival was teased for the next episode, alongside the power couples' first intervention and the season's first dumping. Nobody left in episode three, and Amanda's survival was still unresolved.

Oli might have preferred a little more time before the women got fresh options. Amanda could hardly afford to waste any.

Love Island Australia continues tonight at 8.30pm on Nine and 9Now.
