Love Island Australia opened its first Fiji season with Sophie Monk, 10 singles and barely enough time to settle in before the first bombshell started testing the new connections.

Natalie Gives Jack Another Chance

Natalie, 23, wants someone who can commit. The Gold Coast airline ground crew worker has already had two three-year relationships and is hoping her next one will stick.

Then the first boy walked in. It was Jack, 24, and introductions were going to be a little awkward.

“He ghosted me,” Natalie revealed.

Excellent. All that travel, and the dating pool still comes with someone you already know.

Jack's own introduction hardly promised a quiet ride. He admitted that his attempts to behave better tend to come unstuck when another attractive woman appears.

Still, Natalie was willing to try again. A kiss later, the two put their history aside and became the season's first couple. A fresh start, with a rather large asterisk.

Ava Gets Straight To Work

Their reunion soon had competition. Ava, 24, arrived with plenty of confidence and little apparent concern about rejection.

The Geordie bombshell is a Perth-based traffic controller, originally from Newcastle in England. She wants someone funny who can match her energy and keep his attention on her.

Amanda received the announcement: Ava had sized up the boys and was waiting for her choice in the Hideaway. Jack was summoned, which Natalie took relatively calmly.

For a couple already attempting a reset, that is quite the opening-day test.

Lachie Misses A Crucial Goodbye

Shawnee was considerably less relaxed when her partner Lachie also got the call to join Ava in the hot tub.

The boys gave Lachie an enthusiastic send-off. Shawnee did not get a hug before he headed off, an omission Sophie Monk was quick to point out.

“Have some respect,” Shawnee said in front of the girls.

“It's not that deep, he doesn't need a big pep talk to sit in a spa.”

A fair question for the cheer squad: how much encouragement does a grown man need to get into warm water?

Shawnee made it clear she was unhappy and quite prepared to make a scene. The new couple already had something to sort out, and Ava had barely begun.

Next comes a kissing challenge and more fallout from the bombshell's arrival. Those first pairings might want to hold off on ordering matching luggage.

Love Island Australia continues tonight at 8.45pm on Nine and 9Now.
