This update focuses on the parts of Reality Recap readers use every day. Images now load more efficiently across articles, show hubs, and navigation, while the most important image on each page is given priority.
A Lighter, Faster Reality Recap
Images further down a page now wait until they are needed. Reality Recap also connects to its image services earlier, helping pages begin loading sooner.
The difference was clear in local production testing. The mobile homepage Lighthouse performance score improved from 71 to 89, while its transfer size fell from about 2.4 MB to 774 KB with no layout shift. A representative article page also dropped from about 1.6 MB to 622 KB while keeping a performance score above 90.
Smarter Browsing And Cleaner Show Pages
The homepage Featured story will now use the latest News article by default, making major announcements easier to find. Older category stories will load in batches through View More, so landing pages stay quick without hiding the archive.
Show hubs have received small visual tweaks too. The Watch Show button now includes a play icon and softer colours, while the old back button has been removed for a cleaner hero area.
Advertising With More Transparency
Version 1.3.1 prepares the website for advertising. Ads are designed to load only after the page itself is ready.
Advertising will be introduced this week to help support Reality Recap and fund our ongoing coverage. For a limited time, until the end of October, readers will be able to browse without ads for free by becoming a Reality Recap member. Eventually, an ad-free experience will require a paid subscription, which will also include additional member benefits to be announced in the future.
Reality Recap has also added an Advertising And Affiliate Disclosure, with related updates to the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. The new page explains how advertising, affiliate links, sponsorships and other commercial arrangements may support the site while editorial coverage remains written for readers.
More Reliable Updates Behind The Scenes
The update reduces the amount of content loaded and regenerated when it is not needed. Homepage, category, show and article data can now be refreshed more precisely, helping the site stay responsive as the Reality Recap archive grows.
Reality Recap will keep monitoring performance as the advertising rollout continues, but v1.3.1 already makes the site lighter, cleaner and better prepared for the stories ahead.
