Courtney and Sev’s discounted cellar has sparked another round of debate among The Block fans, with some praising House 4’s competitive approach and others questioning whether the rules have been applied fairly.
The discussion follows the clash over the cellar’s pricing, when Jolene and Lisa challenged the advantage they believed Courtney and Sev had received. Sev maintained that the supplier’s quoted price was not something the team could control.
Now the dispute has spilled into a Reddit discussion titled “The girls vs the world”, where the same design choices and budget decisions are producing very different verdicts.
‘They Came In With A Plan’
The original poster defended Courtney and Sev, arguing that hard work, better design and investigating opportunities other teams had missed helped explain their wins.
Another viewer, posting as AussieExpress19, praised the pair for treating the show as a competition.
“They came in with a plan, have been strategic, played within the rules, taken bold risks, and come out on top,” they wrote.
Design was a big part of the defence. User pantonegreen55 highlighted customised joinery, acoustic details, wheelchair access in the main bathroom and lighting, arguing that smaller unfinished details were not the only things the judges were weighing up.
They also pointed to the rumpus room’s bespoke joinery and the curved pool fence as examples of work that required planning and lead time. Not every idea had landed, in their view, but the team kept pushing the detail of its spaces.
Other Fans Still Question The Judging
Critics in the same thread saw a different pattern.
“Because the rules do change for them,” user jelistarshine wrote, before arguing that the pair had received favourable scores despite unfinished rooms.
Others questioned earlier assistance and bonus money, while supporters responded with examples of help, unfinished work and discounted labour involving rival houses.
Those are viewers’ interpretations of the competition, rather than proof of a rigged result or a finding that Courtney and Sev should be disqualified.
Some of the argument has moved well beyond the cellar itself. Commenters are now debating everything from the judges’ priorities to the way the show’s edit shapes perceptions of each team.
And while the thread contains plenty of frustration, the original split remains: one side sees a team making the most of the competition, while the other wants a more consistent explanation of where the boundaries sit.
