The teams began with Open for Inspections, because apparently judging the neighbours' kitchens was the perfect warm-up. Adam and Jolene's changed layout received a few raised eyebrows, while House 5's styling finally earned some judge praise but did not win over every fellow contestant. Courtney and Sev preferred Chantel and Wyatt's last-place kitchen to Adam and Jolene's winning room, and Jolene was definitely not sold on the marble.
Adam thought the kitchen felt like a Gold Coast casino. Jolene thought it had no heart. It was not exactly a quiet Monday morning.
The Community Challenge Changes Everything
With the kitchens done, the Blockheads learned they still had a laundry and rumpus room to complete, plus the year's community challenge. Scott Cam and 2024 winners Maddy and Charlotte sent them to Ranch 2.0, the Mornington Peninsula's only crisis accommodation, where two housing units needed transforming in just four days.
The split put Maddy and Charlotte with Courtney and Sev and Chantel and Wyatt. Adam and Jolene were paired with Lisa and Rosco and Rick and Tayla, although the winners were soon whisked away for their yacht getaway.
That left Jolene, Lisa and Tayla trying to keep their side moving. Maddy, Chantel and Sev settled into consultations like they had been doing it for years, while the other team struggled to get on the same page. Foreman Dan's return from paternity leave did not improve the mood when he found nobody ready for flooring.
Jolene and Lisa were aligned on what the unit needed, but Tayla's ideas kept taking the conversation in another direction. With the ranch work happening alongside the usual room deadlines, there was no spare day available for a long debate. The job was meant to be about getting two homes ready for people who need them. Instead, the styling choices had already turned into a pressure test.
The Two Sides Start Keeping Score
By night, the challenge had created two very different camps. Rick and Tayla and Lisa and Rosco opted for a share-house dinner and an early night. Maddy and Charlotte took their team to the pub for some very serious planning, plus the sort of gossip that always seems to arrive when a reality-show team-building exercise is underway.
It left the two sides comparing notes before the next workday had even begun. Once the tile approval story reached Jolene, Lisa and Tayla, the challenge was no longer just about a tight turnaround. It was also about whether one team was working to a different set of rules.
The next morning, the other side heard that Maddy and Charlotte's team had been approved for large wall tiles after being told that was not an option for their own unit. It was the kind of detail that can turn a practical styling conversation into a full-blown scoreboard.
Jolene And Tayla Turn A Tile Call Into A Public Fight
The bigger problem was already brewing between Jolene and Tayla. Tayla was convinced skirting tiles would be the better finish, while Jolene, acting as team captain, wanted the group to stick with the call already made. Neither woman had much interest in softening the message.
When Tayla's tiler said wall tiles could be completed in time, the disagreement boiled over in the middle of a public space. Lisa later described chaos and yelling, while Tayla said Jolene had been rude before Jolene stormed off. For a challenge intended to deliver help where it is badly needed, the working relationship was looking alarmingly fragile.
