There was also a surprise exit from Foreman Dan, a paid trade tutorial scheme from Chantel and Wyatt, and enough fireplace talk to make the whole site feel like it needed a lie-down.

Adam And Jolene Get Back To Work

The episode opened with some genuinely good news for Adam and Jolene. Their plasterer, who had been taken to hospital on Monday with an elevated heart rate, was back on site and doing well.

That meant House 1 could stop worrying about the medical scare and get back to the slightly more normal Block problem of trying to finish three enormous spaces at once without everything catching fire. Not literally, although given the rest of the episode, even the fireplaces were doing their best to become a plot point.

Wyatt Starts Charging For Help

Over in House 2, Chantel and Wyatt decided the era of free favours was officially over. Wyatt wanted to charge $500 for access to the Cursio Brothers, but this was not a labour package. It was advice, a tutorial, and then everyone could go forth and lay their own alfresco tiles.

House 1 and House 3 were willing to pay for the help. Tayla, however, thought the offer sounded more like trades-for-hire, and was not thrilled when Wyatt would not hand over the Cursios to do the job properly for House 5.

Her complaint was simple: if you put up a sign advertising trades for money, people are going to expect actual trades. Wyatt's position was just as simple. Tutorials, yes. Labour, absolutely not.

Tayla's Fireplace Becomes The Main Event

The much bigger issue in House 5 was the fireplace. Rick thought he and Tayla were going with a freestanding option, while Tayla wanted an in-built fireplace with more impact and much more work attached to it.

Rick was not exactly subtle about wanting the plan locked. Then the freestanding unit ran into clearance problems, which meant the pair had to pivot anyway. Tayla landed on what she called her dinosaur egg fireplace, a big, strange, sculptural idea that immediately had people talking.

Foreman Dan could see the upside. He told Tayla the idea had the potential to win the room and even The Block. That is exactly the sort of sentence that can either inspire a contestant or send them sprinting directly toward disaster with a mood board in one hand and no approvals in the other.

The problem was approval. Site manager Aiden still needed to sign off on the concept, and the fireplace idea kept evolving. By the time another unit arrived, the team was already dealing with yet another design version and a fresh specifications issue.

The approval team could not sign off on the fireplace from scribbles. A dramatic feature is lovely, but paperwork remains the least glamorous villain on any renovation site.

Scotty Brings The Hammer Down

Tayla's next plan was to find a regular fireplace and wrap it in material to create the look she wanted. Scotty was not having it.

He told Rick that Tayla's idea would take a month, then made it extremely clear that the team needed to build something achievable. Tayla admitted he had shut her right down, but she was not ready to treat that as the end of the conversation.

Instead, she framed Scotty's veto as a challenge. Which, on The Block, is either heroic resilience or the opening scene of a week that ends with someone stress-eating dinner out of a takeaway container at midnight. Possibly both.

Dan Has To Leave The Site

Then came the loveliest chaos of the night. Foreman Dan got the call that his wife Dani had gone into labour one week early, which meant he was suddenly packing his bags and heading off on paternity leave.

It was a very sweet reason to abandon the site, but the timing was wild. Living, Dining and Alfresco Week was already stretched thin, and now the foreman job was briefly opening up too.

The next episode is already promising more fallout, with one team feeling physically ill, another in tears, and Adam's sneaky streak apparently not done yet.
