After Sunday's Living, Dining and Alfresco Room Reveals, there was no gentle start to the next build. The Blockheads are now at the halfway mark, and the money conversations are getting much less theoretical.

Leonie Steps In As The Site Changes Shape

Scott Cam began the week by revealing that foreman Dan would be taking a short break to spend time with Dani and their baby, Fletcher. Leonie Akhidenor stepped into the foreperson role, which is a fairly significant changing of the guard in the middle of a frantic build.

House 5 had its own staffing problem. Rick was ordered to rest after an infected knee, leaving Tayla to keep the build moving with returning Block All-Star Spence on the tools.

That should have been a helpful bit of backup. Instead, it arrived at exactly the moment Tayla needed to explain how her house had spent nearly $50,000 during a week with a suggested budget of $20,000.

Scott Cam Has Seen The Receipts

House 5's final spend for Living, Dining and Alfresco Week came to $49,693.30. Scott was not only worried about the total. He was frustrated that Tayla and Rick had paid cash for items when they still had sponsor options, vouchers and Block Bucks available.

A $349 purchase for two cushions and two pots set the tone, followed by an $184 oil bottle. None of those items sounded like the purchase that would turn a room from also-ran into a winner, which made the splurge look even harder to defend.

Spence was not there to offer a soft landing either. His question was the brutally simple one: did those purchases win them the room? They did not, and House 5 now has to make its Guest Suite Week money work much harder.

Every House Has A Different Plan

Adam and Jolene were also feeling the effect of an expensive win. Fresh from taking out the previous room reveal, they had just $8,000 left in their Reece allowance, so their pink basin, burgundy and blush tiles, wallpaper and bedding plan came with a lot more pressure than the finished look might suggest.

Chantel and Wyatt took the opposite approach. The pair have already won the weekly budgeting prize three times, and they were happy to keep using a careful, neutral formula rather than chase a flashy result at the expense of the bigger picture.

Lisa and Rosco were similarly focused on stretching their Block Bucks. Their guest suite will pair a bedroom, wardrobe and study nook with a restrained ensuite, but the week also brought an emotional farewell when their young son Lando headed back to Perth with Rosco's parents.

Courtney and Sev, meanwhile, were still thinking big. They changed the position of their entry and wardrobe so they could build a more self-contained suite, complete with an integrated kitchenette. It is an ambitious upgrade, but it is also the sort of decision that can make a weekly budget disappear very quickly.

Tayla Makes Another Big Call

Construction was not the only thing changing at House 5. With Rick away, Tayla met real estate agent Ash Martin and decided to replace Mark from Buxton, who had previously been lined up with Rick.

The awkward part was that Rick did not know she had made the call. Tayla had to end the existing arrangement while her dad was recovering, then chose to keep the change quiet for the moment.

It leaves House 5 trying to solve a budget problem, a build problem and a real estate problem all at once. Spence may have arrived at the right time, but he has walked into a house with plenty to sort out.
