The Traitors Australia brought Alex Nation and Keira Maguire back into the same orbit, a full decade after their Bachelor-era rivalry first became reality TV folklore. But instead of the mansion serving up round two of the old drama, Alex says the pair ended up somewhere much softer.
In a new TV WEEK interview, Alex said she and Keira had not spoken for 10 years before arriving on The Traitors Australia. Their history goes all the way back to Richie Strahan's season of The Bachelor Australia in 2016, where Alex ultimately won and Keira became one of the season's most talked-about personalities.
The two later crossed paths again on Bachelor In Paradise, so it is fair to say there was a bit of pre-existing reality TV weather in the room when they both appeared on The Traitors Australia.
From Old Beef To Real Affection
Alex said seeing Keira at the start of the game made her worry they might slip back into their old dynamic. Instead, she said they became "really good friends" while filming.
The sweetest bit, according to Alex, was that Keira was quietly looking out for her in the game. Alex said Keira was backing her, not throwing her name around, and checking in because she knew Alex was missing her kids.
That is a very different flavour from the old Bachelor days. Less cocktail party side-eye, more castle emotional support. Growth, but make it reality TV.
The Round Table Moment Hit Differently
The friendship became part of the on-screen story during a round table moment where Alex spoke about her growing fondness for Keira. Keira became emotional, and Alex has now described the moment as "super healing" for both of them.
It was also a reminder that these shows love to bring back familiar faces, but they do not always bring back the same people. Ten years is a long time, and sometimes the old villain edit, rivalry edit or messy-era edit just does not fit anymore.
For fans who remember the Richie season vividly, seeing Alex and Keira land in a more peaceful place is probably half nostalgic whiplash, half oddly satisfying closure.
Alex's Exit Still Came With Drama
Of course, this is still The Traitors Australia, so the healing arc did not arrive in a quiet little scrapbook.
Alex was eventually banished after her Traitor status was exposed, with AJ Antonios and Josh Packham both playing key roles in the downfall. In the interview, Alex also reflected on why Josh's move hit differently to AJ's, saying her bond with Josh made the betrayal feel more personal.
But the Alex and Keira turnaround is the bit that lingers. Reality TV reunions are often sold on unfinished business, yet this one seems to have found something more interesting than another feud.
