The trailer opens with boats racing across the water before moving into head-to-head challenges, including a battle to knock an opponent off a floating platform. David Genat returns as host as the two tribes prepare to take each other on.

Shared on 10’s official Instagram account, the promo puts the season’s central twist front and centre: every player has a matched rival on the opposite tribe.

Two Tribes Built As Mirrors

The tribes have been assembled around competitors with similar strengths, physicality, smarts and competitive drive. Rugby league star Robbie Farah faces former Wallaby Adam Ashley-Cooper, while Heath Shaw and Adam Cooney bring an AFL showdown to the island.

For Alisa and Lysandra Fraser, the competition gets considerably more personal. The former Block contestants are split into rival positions, and the trailer asks, “Would I vote my sister out?” The answer comes back: “Absolutely I would.”

There is plenty of banter beyond the sporting and sibling match-ups. Christian Wilkins reminds red carpet rival Mitch Churi that he interviewed him just six weeks earlier, prompting a cheeky exchange about the quality of the question and answer. Bernard Curry and Lincoln Lewis also trade on their acting rivalry, with jokes about their age difference and looks.

The 24-person Rivals cast also pairs Olympians Kerri Pottharst and Danielle Scott, lawyers Portia Ferdinand and Emily Jones, and athletes Sharni Layton and Sarah Yatim. Vloggers, rebels and power mums round out the line-up.

While the castaways start with a counterpart on the other side, there is only one $500,000 prize and one Sole Survivor title to win. The season also takes the Australian series to Malaysia for the first time.
