Wednesday’s Big Brother Australia delivered a nasty little reminder that a present from Big Brother always deserves a good shake before opening.

The Button Gives, Then Takes Away

The housemates woke to find a red button waiting for them, and its early surprises were refreshingly pleasant. There was ice cream, an emotional video call from home for Matty and an early celebration for Phoebe’s birthday.

For people cut off from their normal lives, those treats offered a welcome breather. A birthday party with your housemates sounded harmless enough. Even pass the parcel should have been safe territory.

Unfortunately, this parcel came with an eviction attached.

Pam’s Party Ends Early

Seven housemates were facing the public vote, and Big Brother brought the result forward for the nominee with the fewest votes to save. That housemate was Pam.

The 62-year-old teacher’s run ended in the middle of the birthday celebrations. She had spent her time trying to keep the peace through the house’s clashes, but there was no negotiating this result.

Pam kept her farewell generous, telling the others it had been a privilege to share the house with them and wishing them luck.

Outside, she described mixed feelings: sadness at leaving the friends she had made, alongside the excitement of finally seeing her family again. A rough party surprise, then, with a much happier reunion waiting on the other side.

Six Housemates Are Still In Danger

As the season’s oldest housemate, Pam had also pushed back against the age-related jab in Harmon’s goodbye message. She wanted older women watching at home to see that age did not have to stop them putting themselves out there.

Her own stay is over, but the eviction pressure has hardly disappeared. Six nominees remain at risk ahead of Sunday, so the rest of the house can put the party hats down and get back to worrying.

Big Brother Australia continues tonight at 7.30pm on 10 and 10 streaming.
