The network says Farmer Wants A Wife has not been cancelled. Seven Managing Director of Television and Streaming Angus Ross said the network would produce the next series in 2027.
That statement came after TV Blackbox said booked crew had been told to stand down and later reported that production had been postponed.
The Denial Does Not Set A Return Date
As TV Tonight noted, producing the next season in 2027 does not necessarily mean it will screen in 2027. A later shoot could push the broadcast into 2028, and Seven has not announced a premiere window.
That gap between “not cancelled” and “back on air next year” is where most of the confusion lives. Casting was promoted recently, but reports now say applicants who had progressed were told plans had changed.
It is an odd position for a format that still attracts a large audience. Seven says the 2026 season averaged 1.27 million viewers and grew 22 per cent year-on-year, even as every finale couple from that season later split.
The show’s travel-heavy production makes it expensive, with multiple crews required to film farmers around the country. Commercial networks are also juggling softer advertising revenue and rising production costs.
Seven’s Upfront presentation on October 22 should bring the next useful clue. Until then, Farmer Wants A Wife is not officially cancelled, but its path back to television is far less straightforward than the recent 2027 casting call made it appear.
