Thursday's Love Island Australia delivered its first dumping, two boy bombshells and the first intervention from the power couples. Amanda went from the only single girl to the person deciding which boy would leave.
Oli Gets Another Chance With Phoebe
After Amanda and Phoebe compared notes about their kisses with Oli, Phoebe wanted an explanation.
She told him she would not have kissed him that morning if she had known he had kissed her closest friend the night before. He had plenty of time to mention it during their long conversation and had chosen to leave it out.
Oli argued that kissing Amanda had helped him realise their connection was friendly. Phoebe's point remained fairly straightforward: he could have told her that.
He apologised, admitted he had messed up and promised to communicate openly. Phoebe gave him another chance, admitting that getting so upset had shown her how much she liked him.
Oli was pleased she cared. Probably wise to keep that particular silver lining to himself for a minute.
An Apology With An Unnecessary Audience
Next, Oli went to the dressing room to clear things up with Amanda. Phoebe was standing right there as he explained that his connection with her was further along.
Even Phoebe could see this was a terrible arrangement. She left them to talk, looking deeply uncomfortable about having been included in the first place.
Oli acknowledged that he had been looking out for himself and apologised for giving Amanda the wrong impression. Amanda accepted the apology, but wished he had said all this before she started thinking they might have something.
She came away deciding he was not her guy. Hold that thought.
Elsewhere, Shawnee and Jarrar were having a much easier time flirting. Their gym-date banter involved him lifting her up, and she admitted there was sexual chemistry alongside their matching energy.
Her partner Lachie was still pursuing Ava. Ava described Keanu as the fun one and Lachie as more serious, while Lachie discovered that Keanu's impromptu poem had set a surprisingly competitive standard.
Nobody Stands Up For Amanda
Amanda had spent the day trying to find a connection, but still felt she had not been anyone's first choice. Sophie's return to the firepit made that fear painfully public.
The boys were asked to stand if they felt a stronger connection with Amanda than with any other girl in the villa. Nobody did.
It looked like her time was up. Sophie told her to say goodbye, then sent her directly to the Power Room, where her fate would be decided.
Amanda headed upstairs confused and frightened, expecting a suitcase and getting a mysterious gold room instead.
Jordan And Zel Rearrange The Couples
While Amanda waited, Jordan and Zel arrived. Jordan was a 24-year-old property owner from Canberra, and Zel was a model with an English accent that immediately caught the girls' attention.
Layla recognised Jordan from his history with her best friend. There was already plenty to discuss before anyone had even chosen a partner.
The original boys were sent to the balcony while the newcomers got to know the girls. Looking down at all that laughter and flirting was doing very little for their confidence.
Lachie noticed Shawnee giving the new arrivals plenty of energy. Keanu was concerned about Ava enjoying the conversation, particularly once he heard an English accent. Suddenly, the boys keeping their options open had options to worry about too.
Jordan chose Layla, saying she seemed down to earth and he wanted to explore their connection. That left her original partner Oli single.
Zel chose Phoebe after picking up on their eye contact and energy. She confirmed she felt chemistry, and Jarrar was left single too.
Oli and Jarrar were called to stand in front of the firepit. Neither knew that Amanda was about to return with considerably more power than she had left with.
Amanda Chooses Oli, And Jarrar Is Dumped
In the Power Room, 2025 winners Yana and Kye delivered the season's first power move. Amanda was safe, but she had to couple up with one of the two newly single boys and dump the other.
She returned to explain the twist, then faced a choice between Jarrar and the man who had just told her he preferred Phoebe.
Amanda said it was difficult to judge romantic potential so early, but she had to trust her gut about who she could have the strongest connection with. She chose Oli.
Oli was relieved and grateful. He told Sophie he and Amanda had already shared a good connection and he was keen to explore it, which landed awkwardly after his earlier friendship-only explanation.
Amanda and Oli were now a couple. Jarrar became the first Islander dumped from the villa.
He took the news graciously, saying his stay had been short but he had met good people. Sophie requested one final bark before giving him 30 minutes to say his goodbyes.
The boys were particularly upset to lose him, and the farewell duly involved more barking. Jarrar left still believing he could find love, while Oli felt terrible that his own survival had come at his friend's expense.
Natalie Wants To Know Why
Amanda was grateful to stay and guilty about sending Jarrar home. Phoebe was relieved that both her best friend and Oli had survived.
Natalie was much less comfortable with the decision. Why save a boy who had just rejected Amanda and misled Phoebe when Jarrar had other connections to explore?
There were friendships involved too. Jarrar was close to the boys, including Jack, and Shawnee had been enjoying her own flirtation with him. Losing him closed off possibilities for people beyond Amanda.
Natalie called the decision selfish and felt her trust in Amanda had been shaken. Amanda explained that she had to think about which boy she felt more compatible with, because she was there to find love.
Other girls reminded her she was allowed to make that choice for herself. She had been handed a decision that guaranteed somebody else would go home.
The New Couples Get Comfortable
Layla and Jordan wasted little time exploring the attraction that had brought them together. She liked his height, smile and facial hair, and their conversation felt easier than her chats with the other boys.
They kissed and cuddled, with Layla delighted to finally have some romance in the villa. After her quiet start with Oli, being actively pursued was a welcome change.
Phoebe and Zel found a spot upstairs, took photos together and bonded over their links to the UK. His accent had made a strong first impression, and the conversation kept giving her reasons to smile.
She told him she had lived in the UK and San Francisco before moving to Australia, and that her mum worked in animation. Mentioning her mum's work on Dobby led to a shared burst of enthusiasm for Harry Potter.
The compliments flowed in both directions. Phoebe loved his personality, Zel was clearly attracted to her, and their first proper chat left them both looking very pleased.
Oli Finds One More Way To Upset Natalie
Oli thanked Amanda for saving him and apologised again for how he had handled things earlier. When she said she felt like the most hated person in the villa, he promised to back her.
He felt Natalie was making an already difficult choice harder for Amanda. Natalie and Shawnee, meanwhile, were still upset that Jarrar had gone while a boy who had ruled out romance with Amanda remained.
Then Oli described some of the reactions as “hilarious”. Natalie immediately challenged the word.
He defended Amanda, while Natalie felt he was dismissing people who were genuinely hurt by the dumping. Oli accused her of being horrible to Amanda, while Natalie was preparing to confront him again.
The next-episode preview promised dates with the new arrivals, jealous original boys and more of the Natalie and Oli argument. Amanda's decision had saved two Islanders, but the villa was still arguing about the one it cost.
Love Island Australia continues Monday at 8.35pm on Nine and 9Now.
