Episode seven of Love Island Australia gave one of the Villa’s most comfortable couples a very uncomfortable afternoon, while Jordan discovered the downside of kissing somebody inside a machine that prints receipts.
Shawnee Needs Comfort, Amanda Wants A Distraction
Lachie’s decision to explore things with Ava left Shawnee upset, with Zel stepping in for a comforting hug. Nat, meanwhile, felt secure enough with Jack to help everybody else through their romantic problems.
That confidence was about to have a very short shelf life.
Amanda had her own situation to untangle after Zel started pursuing Layla. Her response was to take Jordan into the photobooth, where the pair shared a passionate kiss.
Keeping it quiet was an ambitious plan. They were in a photobooth. The evidence practically developed itself.
Jordan’s ‘Little Kiss’ Gets A Bigger Explanation
Jordan told Layla about the encounter, describing it as a little kiss. At first, being upfront worked in his favour: Layla appreciated the honesty and kissed him herself.
Then she spoke to Amanda, whose version made the photobooth session sound considerably more enthusiastic than Jordan’s account.
Layla felt disrespected by the gap between what she had been told and what had actually happened. She asked to see the photographs, and the printed proof did Jordan precisely no favours.
After Keanu’s fake-dare stunt left Ava embarrassed, the Villa was already short on trust. Jordan’s selective description was hardly going to replenish the supply.
Sammi Arrives With A Date In Mind
A text brought the next disruption: Sammi, a former Miss New Zealand, was arriving as the latest bombshell.
She said she had not kissed anyone in two years, then made an entrance that put that drought firmly behind her. The boys were blindfolded for her introductory kissing challenge.
Nat could immediately see why Sammi might appeal to Jack. The woman who had been feeling so comfortable in her couple suddenly had a very specific reason to worry.
Sammi chose Jack for a one-on-one date, taking that concern out of the hypothetical category.
Jack Makes A Connection, Then Makes It Worse
Away from the Villa, Jack and Sammi found plenty to talk about, including snacks, psychological thrillers and growing up in small towns. Their shared interests were followed by a private kiss.
Jack also made an unflattering comparison with the woman waiting for him, saying: “Nat is no Barbie doll.” A charming addition to an already difficult day for her.
He and Sammi returned holding hands, leaving Nat visibly hurt. Jack then announced that he and Sammi were coupled up.
It was a joke, rather than a formal recoupling. As a way of easing the tension, it was spectacularly unsuccessful.
Nat explained that her anger was about how Jack treated her when he came back. The date itself, and even the hand-holding, were not what upset her most. It was feeling as though she no longer mattered to him.
The pair who had looked settled at the start of the episode now had a much bigger problem than an awkward introduction. Sammi had made her connection with Jack, and Nat was left questioning the one she thought she already had.
Love Island Australia continues tonight at 9.35pm on Nine and 9Now.
