The My Kitchen Rules pair told Chattr that friendliness became less of a priority with $100,000 on the line.
“We stopped trying to make friends, and we started taking the competition pretty seriously,” Angus said.
That does not mean everyone is off the Christmas card list. Angus named Krysten and Lucy as friends they still value, and said he also keeps in touch with Mary. Simon agreed those friendships stood out.
His feelings about Zoe and Zac were considerably cooler. Angus said he would be happy not to cross paths with them again, describing the experience as something he would not want to repeat.
The comments follow the cast group chat tensions and fallout from the pescatarian argument.
They Say There Was Strategy Behind The Stirring
In a separate interview with New Idea, the friends pushed back on comparisons with Jane and Shane, while admitting their approach was not entirely accidental.
Angus said they hoped a brash manner, backed up by strong cooking, would make them intimidating opponents. They wanted a psychological advantage and felt the gatecrashers should face the same scrutiny they had endured in the first round.
Simon maintained their jokes were not malicious, including the comparison between themselves and Harrison and Oliver. He acknowledged that other people might not find their humour as funny as they did.
Angus also stood by his frustration with Zoe’s participation at the table, saying his issue extended beyond whether she could taste a particular dish. Those are his criticisms of her approach, rather than Zoe’s explanation of it.
As for the villain label, Angus told New Idea: “It’s really not that deep; it’s a television show.”
More Tension To Come?
The friends have teased further fireworks. Simon told Chattr he had never seen Angus lose his temper the way he did during the competition, while Angus said viewers would see a rarer angry side of him.
They have not revealed the incident behind that tease, so the cause and fallout are still under wraps.
