It is the kind of dispute that sounds ridiculous on paper, which is exactly why it had enough fuel to spread through every house. With Thursday's Domain Listing and Buyer's Jury open house getting closer, nobody was in the mood to let a slight slide.
The Dinner Debrief Goes Sideways
The episode picked up the share-house friction around Jolene's message to Chantel and Wyatt about washing their bowls after the gym. House 2 fired back with a note of its own, then Chantel reconsidered the approach and swapped it for a self-portrait. Diplomatic? Not quite. Memorable? Absolutely.
The sink dispute then collided with the fallout from Courtney and Sev's Rumpus and Laundry win. The pair were already carrying the tension from Tuesday's protein-powder protest, and Chantel told Courtney that other contestants had criticised House 4's winning room over dinner.
Sev wanted to know exactly what had been said. When she asked Lisa about the dinner, Lisa's comment about the Monday group meals landed badly, and the conversation quickly became a chain reaction of hurt feelings between Lisa, Sev and Courtney.
Chantel later made her view clear to Courtney and Sev, saying the criticism was coming from a spiteful place. It was enough to make Sev emotional, and Lisa was upset too that the dinner talk had travelled back to House 4. Thankfully, the two women eventually spoke it through and hugged, because this week had barely started.
A Footy Challenge Brings A Brief Win
Scott Cam and Shelley Craft brought Melbourne Storm players to site for a quick challenge, asking the teams to throw a footy into a bin. It was not exactly a renovation skill, but a cash-and-snacks prize was on the table, so everyone suddenly had a reason to care.
House 2 got some tradie help and took the win. It was a handy little boost for Chantel and Wyatt after the kitchen drama, although a snack prize can only do so much when the rest of the house is still keeping score.
Then House 5 Springs A Leak
The day ended with the sort of building disaster that makes every other argument pause for a second. A chippy hit a pipe at House 5, water started pouring through the space and Rick, still managing his injured knee, was down on the floor helping mop it up while the plumber shut off the water main.
It was another reminder that the contestants are juggling more than room styling this week. Courtney and Sev are redoing three spaces, while the other houses are also trying to make a strong enough impression before the open house puts their work in front of potential buyers.
Thursday's Domain Listing and Buyer's Jury challenge is the first real clue about how Auction Day could shape up. If this episode is anything to go by, the rooms will not be the only things under scrutiny.
The Block continues tonight at 7.30pm on Nine and 9Now.
