It was a chaotic first day built around bruised egos, a budget reality check and an ambulance arriving at the site. Nothing says a fresh week of renovation quite like an avoidable material shortage followed by a medical scare.

Lisa Starts The Week On Shaky Ground

Lisa and Rosco came into the new build still feeling the fallout from their main ensuite judging. Their colourful, crazy-pave bathroom had received far warmer feedback during Open for Inspection than it did from the judges, leaving Lisa wondering whether the other contestants had simply been polite.

That uncertainty could not have arrived at a worse time. The teams were beginning the living, dining and alfresco spaces, three rooms that will do plenty of heavy lifting when buyers eventually walk through those water-view homes.

House 2's Insulation Goes Missing

Adam and Jolene had one clear goal, finish their room and finally break through for a win. Their neighbours Chantel and Wyatt were just trying to get their insulation in so plastering could begin.

Except their insulation was not where it should have been. Adam had moved the batts from beside House 2 into House 1 while tidying up, including materials labelled for Chantel and Wyatt.

When Chantel came looking for spare insulation, Adam did not exactly rush to solve the puzzle. House 2 was left stalled while House 1 kept moving, making a simple clean-up job look a lot more strategic than helpful.

Courtney And Sev Put The Table Back

Across the site, Courtney and Sev had their hearts set on a custom Christian Cole dining table worth between $15,000 and $20,000. It was a lovely idea, right up until the pair remembered they had already used nearly 60 per cent of their $250,000 budget in five weeks.

The girls made the painful call to let it go. Then Adam and Jolene stepped in, because apparently a week featuring somebody else's insulation shortage was also the perfect time to take on somebody else's dream table.

House 1 knew the price would stretch them, but the scale of their living space made an ordinary table feel like a compromise. With their first win still out of reach, Adam and Jolene were willing to gamble on a statement piece.

An Ambulance Stops House 1 Cold

The momentum did not last. Adam and Jolene's plasterer Hayden became unwell after his heart rate rose and would not settle, prompting an ambulance call-out and a trip to hospital.

The couple were understandably worried about Hayden, while also facing the practical reality of losing a vital trade in the middle of a huge build. Suddenly, the dining table was a very distant concern.

House 4 Finds A Late-Night Fix

Rick and Tayla were enjoying the glow of their first room win, including a winners' getaway with Scott Cam. Courtney and Sev, meanwhile, were solving a different problem.

Extended site hours were useful, but power tools were still off limits late at night. House 4 built a soundproof room so they could keep cutting and grinding without causing trouble around the site. It is practical, slightly unhinged and very much the kind of idea that only makes sense on The Block.

By the end of the episode, the houses had barely begun the week and already had a design crisis, a budget squeeze, a supply stoush and a genuine emergency to contend with. Tuesday's job is all about fireplaces, which feels unlikely to make anyone's life easier.
