There was a family reunion, a gender reveal and a very silly athletics carnival before the terrace panic truly took hold. But once the rooftop whispers started, the worksite did what it does best, made a big deal out of a small amount of information.

Adam and Jolene Take the Cash

Hamish Blake arrived to run an athletics carnival challenge involving questionable race gear, underwear-based ball tossing and a tiebreaker. Normal tradesperson behaviour, obviously.

Adam and Jolene came out on top and pocketed $10,000. It was a welcome win during a week that was about to become much more complicated for them.

Lisa also had her own big family moment when Scotty used the reunion to reveal that she is expecting another boy. The celebrations gave everyone a brief break from construction chaos, which was generous of the show.

The Rooftop Rumour Mill Gets Moving

The following morning, Courtney and Sev's plan to seek council approval for a rooftop terrace was no longer much of a secret. Lisa and Jolene had heard about it through a House 3 builder who is mates with House 4's chippy, proving that no Block secret survives a decent tradie connection.

Adam and Jolene had raised the same rooftop idea early in the season and had not received an answer, so Jolene was understandably not thrilled to see the prospect suddenly gathering pace next door. Lisa wondered how Courtney and Sev kept finding ways to make big ideas happen, while the rest of the site filled in the blanks for itself.

Most importantly, the rooftop is not becoming a pool. The glass balustrade in House 4's render looked enough like an infinity edge to start the rumour, but Courtney set the record straight. Tayla still climbed up at House 1 for a closer look, then decided House 5 should chase the same permit if House 4 could get one.

A Terrace Week With No Easy Fixes

Courtney and Sev's plans were not exactly sailing along. Foreman Dan warned them that a retaining wall beside their deck would require an excavator, which initially meant ripping up framing they had already built.

Landscaper Troy Lovett found a workaround by removing the temporary boundary fence and bringing the excavator in from the other side. He was also called on after Courtney clashed with the Cursios over a specialised bracket. On a week like this, a practical solution was doing more heavy lifting than the actual excavator.

The Cursios were dealing with their own decking headache after GMac told them to pull it up because the wrong screws had been used. By the time an invitation to Cirque du Soleil landed at the sharehouse, the teams had earned a night away from their terraces, even if it did not look like the terraces were done with them.

The Block continues Sunday at 7.00pm on Nine and 9Now.
