It was the kind of practical decision that immediately became a full-scale group grievance. By dinner, everyone had a version of who had caused the problem, who had said what and who was now meant to take the blame.
Scott Cam Calls Time
Adam's son Kai, his friend Nick and Rosco's dad Jimbo had been staying in the group accommodation, and the arrangement had become impossible to ignore. Courtney and Sev raised concerns about the guests at body corporate, while Chantel said she simply did not feel comfortable with them in the sharehouse.
Jimbo was already due to leave on Friday, but Kai and Nick were expected to stay until the end of the competition. The meeting finished without a resolution, which meant the tension had plenty of time to marinate.
Scott eventually took the decision out of the contestants' hands. Once Chantel's discomfort was on the table, he told the teams there was no alternative but for the three guests to move out.
Adam did not hide his frustration, while Lisa immediately went looking for Chantel to make it clear she was not happy. Chantel, meanwhile, felt she had been turned into the scapegoat for a problem that had clearly been annoying more than one household.
The Site Is Still Finding New Ways To Fight
The sharehouse row was not the only thing bubbling away. House 3 had concrete poured over its stormwater pipe before it was capped, leaving Jimbo with the thankless job of digging it back up.
Over at House 4, Courtney and Sev stirred up another issue by emailing a supplier as though Jolene had referred them. Jolene was unimpressed, especially with the enormous wine cellar for Courtney and Sev arriving after the budget drama from the previous episode.
There was no chance the cellar was going to quietly disappear into the background. It only gave Jolene one more reason to feel as though House 4 was pushing every available button.
Dinner Does Not Fix A Thing
Lisa tried to reset the mood with a group dinner, but Chantel and Wyatt gave it a miss, as did Kai and Nick. The people who did turn up quickly proved that no one had actually moved on.
Adam argued that everyone had sat back and let Chantel get the guests removed. Rick pushed back, saying Jolene would have reacted badly if he had brought two friends into the sharehouse without telling anyone first. Courtney and Sev agreed, which did not exactly soften the landing.
When Jolene brought up her earlier claim that Wyatt had intimidated her, Courtney challenged her recollection of it. Jolene held her ground, insisting she was allowed to feel how she felt. At that point, the dinner had officially achieved the opposite of peacekeeping.
Next up, the teams have to turn their Block experience into a Cheryoke performance, with alumni judging the songs and $10,000 on offer. After this lot, earplugs might be the most sensible thing on the shopping list.
The Block continues tonight at 7.30pm on Nine and 9Now.
