Adam and Jolene won on The Block with 29 points after adding their bonus point, ahead of Courtney and Sev on 28.25. Chantel and Wyatt scored 25.5, Lisa and Rosco 22, and Rick and Tayla finished last on 21.5.
Carroll told Chattr that Courtney and Sev produced his favourite space. He also felt Rick and Tayla’s unfinished design deserved more appreciation.
The teams had faced tight budgets heading outdoors, before Scott Cam gave each an extra $50,000 to help finish their landscaping.
Courtney And Sev Get His Vote
“Courtney and Sev delivered the best space of the week by far,” Carroll said.
That reverses his stance on their perfect-scoring kids’ bedroom and redo, when he questioned whether House 4 deserved three 10s.
Nine’s official room reveal shows the judges praising the outdoor kitchen, dining area and pool, while picking up unfinished decking, an overly high bar table and awkward floor grates. The scale impressed them, but completion still cost points.
For Rick and Tayla, Carroll liked the textures, guest seating and poolside lounging. He singled out their stairs as a feature that could transform the area once finished.
The judges also saw promise in House 5. As Sunday’s reveal showed, however, the incomplete deck left furniture crowded together and pulled their score down.
A Sauna And A Missing Barbecue Divide Opinion
Carroll thought Adam and Jolene packed in too much. He would have tucked the sauna somewhere more secluded and questioned a bar arrangement that seated guests in a row, facing away from the pool.
“I don’t believe more design means better design,” he said.
The judges were more enthusiastic about House 1’s outdoor kitchen and its connection to the rumpus, although Shaynna Blaze also questioned the furniture choices. All those amenities helped sell them on the space before the gnome sealed the win.
Chantel and Wyatt were Carroll’s least favourite. He considered their two alfresco zones too limited for a large, expensive home and dismissed the suggestion of taking a barbecue downstairs in the lift. He wanted each area to offer a distinct way to entertain.
Lisa and Rosco’s terrace disappointed him too: he found it undersized, stylistically disconnected from their interiors and let down by the kitchenette.
House 3 still left judging with something to celebrate. Lisa and Rosco collected the $10,000 budgeting award, even as their outdoor reveal put them fourth.
