The contestant on The Block told Woman’s Day she floated the idea that Gold Coast businessman Travers Beynon, known as the Candyman, might buy Chantel and Wyatt’s house.
Courtney said she had heard of a family connection and wondered whether it could translate into auction interest. The buyer suggestion was her own leap, rather than an announced bidding plan.
“I didn’t know if it was true or not,” she admitted.
Courtney Wanted A Reaction
She says she then told the other teams they might as well give up because Chantel and Wyatt would win. It was a deliberately provocative line, and Courtney says Rosco’s reaction was particularly entertaining.
“It was just fun messing with them,” she said.
Beynon is known for his FreeChoice tobacco business and lavish Gold Coast lifestyle. Courtney’s story plays on the prospect of a wealthy bidder arriving with a preferred house already in mind.
There is no confirmed purchase plan from Beynon in the interview, and Courtney’s claim does not establish a family connection or an auction advantage for Chantel and Wyatt.
The homes already have a $3.6m to $3.9m price guide, but their eventual sale prices and profit margins will be decided at auction. A rumour around the shared house cannot settle that contest.
Asked how she would feel if her speculation came true, Courtney joked that she would spend a week upset before moving on. For someone trying to unsettle the competition, she had also imagined her own unhappy ending.
