That figure includes their $1.27 million auction profit, the $100,000 winners' bonus and $500,000 worth of prizes. In cash, the friends pocketed $1.37 million. Even without the extras, their result was comfortably out of reach of the other teams.

Getting there involved a last-minute auction swap, a bidding marathon and one auctioneer who made Scotty regret judging a book by its youthful cover.

The Reserve Reveal Starts Another Argument

For once, the reserves weren't a mystery to viewers. Changes to Victorian rules meant the $3.45 million figure for every house had already been made public before auction day.

The teams were still relieved when they uncovered their numbers. The relief lasted approximately as long as it took someone to raise the auction order.

Lisa and Rosco wanted to go first or second and were firm about avoiding a later position. Adam and Jolene, taking advice from Domain's Alice Stolz, also wanted the opening slot. Courtney and Sev and Chantel and Wyatt arrived with tensions over Lisa's media comments still simmering, so agreement was hardly guaranteed.

Eventually, everyone settled on house order rather than leave it to a lucky dip. Then House 2's agent proposed a late swap with Courtney and Sev, who happily accepted.

The final running order was Adam and Jolene first, Courtney and Sev second, Lisa and Rosco third, Chantel and Wyatt fourth, and Rick and Tayla last. Nothing like rearranging the queue just before several million dollars enter the conversation.

Adam And Jolene Put Everyone At Ease

House 1 had nine registered buyers, and Danny Wallis wasted no time reminding us that a straightforward bid is apparently optional. He opened at $3,501,000, minus 48 cents.

The other bidders were considerably less interested in the loose change. Within two minutes, Adam and Jolene were looking at a $410,000 profit, with more still to come.

The hammer eventually fell at $3,905,000, giving them $455,000 above reserve. Jolene burst into tears, Adam looked stunned, and the other teams cheered as the first auction delivered a very encouraging start.

After all the fears about whether the houses would sell, one couple already had a life-changing result. Four to go.

Courtney And Sev Watch The Numbers Run Away

Courtney and Sev's decision to take the second slot soon looked rather inspired. Their second bid reached $3.7 million, putting House 4 on the market with $250,000 in profit already secured.

From there, the bidding gathered speed. They passed Adam and Jolene's result, then kept climbing while Scotty predicted they would make a million dollars.

It sounded enormous. Moments later, it was happening.

A $4.7 million bid sent the room into disbelief, but the buyers weren't finished. The final sale price was $4.72 million, leaving Courtney and Sev with $1.27 million above their reserve.

The friends screamed, the other contestants stared, and their rivals suddenly had a very large number to chase. The winners' bonus and prize pool still depended on the remaining auctions, but Scotty was already treating that result as the one to beat.

Lisa And Rosco's Auction Needs Chairs And A Sandwich

Before House 3 went under the hammer, Lisa and Rosco introduced newborn Jude. Scotty also discovered the baby had not, in fact, been named after him. A small personal setback in an otherwise lucrative afternoon.

Danny opened the bidding, then found himself challenged by a blonde buyer who appeared just as he seemed to be narrowing the field.

What followed was a very patient exchange of bids. Very, very patient. Chairs were brought into the contestants' room so those in heels could sit down, while Scotty asked the crew for a sandwich.

The buyer eventually asked whether she could hold the baby. Lisa was more than happy to oblige, and a final $4 million bid secured the house.

Lisa and Rosco finished with $550,000 in profit. It took its time arriving, but that is a fairly persuasive reward for waiting.

Chantel And Wyatt Get Their Happy Ending

Chantel said she would be happy with anything. Danny's opening move immediately put House 2 $250,000 above reserve, which was rather more than anything.

Danny, Frank and another buyer's agent traded bids as the profit climbed. Danny eventually dropped out at $3.817 million and left the room.

That was also the final sale price, giving Chantel and Wyatt $367,000. They had gone through the season without a room win, but this was a much more useful number to take home.

The couple were overwhelmed by the result. Judging-week disappointment suddenly felt a long way away.

Rick And Tayla's Young Auctioneer Has The Last Laugh

Rick and Tayla had the final chance to challenge Courtney and Sev. Scotty wasn't entirely convinced by their auctioneer's youthful appearance, joking that he looked 12.

Ryan was actually 22, and Danny's $4 million opening bid quickly changed the mood. House 5 was already well above reserve before anyone had much chance to settle in.

The bidding paused around $4.2 million, but Ryan kept working the room. Frank's buyer stopped at $4.325 million, a mystery couple joined the contest, and buyer's advocate Andrew Date stayed in the fight.

Andrew's final $4.355 million bid secured the property, delivering Rick and Tayla $905,000 in profit and the second-biggest result of the day.

Rick sprang up to celebrate. Tayla, usually more than capable of finding a few words, looked completely overwhelmed. Ryan had done rather well for someone Scotty had mistaken for a schoolkid.

Five Sales, Five Profits And One Very Big Celebration

With the last hammer down, Courtney and Sev's win was official. Their $1.27 million auction profit became $1.37 million in cash with the winners' bonus, plus the $500,000 prize pool.

Across the five houses, the teams made $3.547 million in auction profit before that extra winners' package. Adam and Jolene had $455,000, Lisa and Rosco $550,000, Chantel and Wyatt $367,000, and Rick and Tayla $905,000.

After all the arguments about the houses, the buyers and the order, nobody was leaving empty-handed. Tayla and Ryan celebrated by jumping into the pool, which seems a perfectly reasonable response to an afternoon like that.
