With a new Southern Cross board overseeing the network and two expensive music formats on the slate, the future is not entirely in the coaches' hands.
Richard Marx Says The Numbers Will Decide
When TV Tonight asked the coaches about the possibility of Seven reconsidering its two singing shows, Richard took a pragmatic view.
He said he hopes there is room for both formats, but acknowledged that “the numbers will make the decision for everyone”.
Richard has spent four decades in the music business and knows profitable shows tend to survive while expensive ventures eventually face harder questions. Happily for him, balancing network budgets is someone else's red chair.
Melanie C Wants To Return
Melanie C was equally realistic about the uncertainty, saying television does not stand still and the final decision is beyond her control.
What she does know is that she wants another season. “I would love to come back,” the Spice Girls star said.
Melanie and Richard currently sit beside Ronan Keating and Kate Miller-Heidke, with Tones And I introduced as a secret fifth coach during the Blind Auditions.
Could The Voice Coaching Panel Change?
Seven has not announced that any coach is leaving, but speculation about the next panel has already begun.
A recent report linked Australian Idol alumnus Shannon Noll to a possible red-chair role, although Noll's possible move to The Voice remains unconfirmed.
The Voice has performed strongly for Seven this season, but casting interest alone does not guarantee a renewal or confirm who would return. For now, Richard is following the numbers, Melanie wants another round, and Seven is keeping both buttons firmly under wraps.
